Nativism, Empiricism, and the Interactionist Consensus  PDF

ABSTRACT. All theorists who study cognitive development agree that development in an individual involves complex multilevel processes and that psychological traits cannot be explained solely in terms of genetic or environmental variables. Recent work on genes, fetal development, neuroplasticity, and so on is making important contributions to our understanding of the mind. But none of this research shows that nativist theories of development are misguided or that the nativism-empiricism debate is obsolete.
