PHIL101: Introduction to Philosophy
Lecture + Discussion Version (offered in term 1)
This version has two 50 minute lectures and one 50 minute discussion session per week. The discussion is led by a teaching assistant. The advantage of this format is that the discussion sessions are capped at 20-25 students so that you can expect to engage in a thoughtful exchange of ideas with other members of the course. Attending discussion sessions is required. Please do not sign up for this section if you aren’t prepared to attend these sessions each week and to participate in the discussion.
Lecture-Only Version (offered in term 2)
This version has two 75 minute lectures per week; there are no discussion sessions. I offer this format for students whose schedules make it difficult to attend discussion sessions as well as lectures. This version of the course also allows for more Q&A during lectures and covers more material (and often more topics) than the lecture + discussion format.
COVID-19 adjustments: The default plan for the online version of this course is that the lectures and discussion sessions will be held in real time using Zoom or a similar video conference tool.
